A BoodleBox rescue mission
Are you about to lose your bot?
Gems start converting to Skills November 17.
Custom GPTs retire December 11.
No need to leave your bot behind. Bring it to BoodleBox, where the expertise you built can run on every AI model, not just one.
Free to start. No credit card required.

Our Rescue Mission
Every custom GPT and Gem holds hours of someone's thinking: a professor's rubric, an advisor's know-how, a firm's playbook. That work shouldn't expire on a vendor's timeline, and it shouldn't have to be rebuilt every time a platform changes its mind.
BOTS NEED A HOME
If you've built a custom GPT or a Gem, a deadline is coming. OpenAI is replacing GPTs with plugins and Google is converting Gems into Skills. If you do nothing, custom GPTs stop working on December 11. If you convert, a converted bot isn't always the same bot.
Native habitat: ChatGPT. Being replaced by plugins.
Native habitat: Gemini. Being converted to Skills.
Two platforms, one lesson: bots built inside a single company's chatbot live on that company's schedule.
How it works
Save your bot in 3 steps.
Before you begin
You'll need the account that created the GPT or Gem. Only the creator can see its instructions.
Export before you migrate. OpenAI makes a GPT read-only once you click "Migrate to plugin."
Actions and connected apps don't transfer. Note them down and ask your BoodleBox admin about alternatives.
You'll need a BoodleBox account. Log in if you have one or create one for free.
Rescue your bot, earn the badge. Finish the three steps, then report your rescue →
Which kind of bot are you rescuing?
Open your GPT's editor. Log in to ChatGPT, click the three dots under Plugins, and select GPTs. Click My GPTs in the top right corner, then click the pencil icon to edit your GPT. Don't click "Migrate to plugin" yet.
Copy its instructions, word for word. On the Configure tab, click inside Instructions, select all, and copy. This is your bot's DNA, so paste it somewhere safe today.
Download its knowledge files. Still on the Configure tab, scroll to Knowledge and click each file. It downloads to your computer. Syllabi, rubrics, handbooks, style guides: everything it was trained to reference.
Note its markings. Write down its name, conversation starters, the model it ran on, and any actions it calls.
Open your Gem's editor. Log in to Gemini and click Gems in the left sidebar. Find your Gem under My Gems and click Edit.
Copy its instructions, word for word. On the configuration page, click inside Instructions, select all, and copy. This is your bot's DNA, so paste it somewhere safe today.
Download its knowledge files. Scroll down to Knowledge and click a file. It opens, so click the download button in the top right corner. Repeat for each file. Gemini may add a short code to file names, so rename them back to the originals.
Note its markings. Write down its name, conversation starters, the model it ran on, and any tools it calls.
Start a new bot. This step needs a BoodleBox account, free to start. In BoodleBox, click Bots in the left sidebar, then Build Bot, and give it the same name as your GPT or Gem. Open the Configure tab.
Paste your instructions. Paste the instructions you copied straight into Bot Instructions, exactly as written.
Upload your knowledge files. Under Knowledge, add the files you downloaded.
Check its work and pick a model. Make sure the instructions match word for word and every file is listed. Run it on any leading model, or let BoodleBot pick the right one for each prompt.
Test it. Click Test Bot and ask two or three questions you know the answers to. Compare each answer with what your original bot would say.
Publish and share it. Click Publish, then share it with a class, a team, or a GroupChat.
Report your rescue. Tell us which bot you saved and download your Safe Bot badge.
Share your rescue! Share your badge and this page with a colleague, a department, or your campus. Custom GPTs retire December 11, and every bot saved is someone's best thinking, kept.
BoodleBox puts every major model behind one roof. When a vendor changes course, your bots don't have to move again.

FERPA- and SOC 2-compliant, built for campuses and the organizations they serve.
Bots that build AI skills
Coach Mode flags over-reliance and weak fact-checking, so your bot helps people think, not just copy.
Bots in good company
GroupChats put people and multiple bots in one thread, together.
You won't get a migration notice from us. If a better way to package expertise comes along, it will arrive beside your bots, not in place of them.
A skill is something an AI can do. A bot is a named thing a group can share.

Takes about a minute. Opens in a new tab.
| Part of your bot | How it gets to BoodleBox |
|---|---|
| Instructions | Copy them straight from the GPT or Gem editor and paste them directly into the Configure tab of your new BoodleBox bot. |
| Knowledge files | Download each file from the editor. In ChatGPT, open the Configure tab, scroll to Knowledge, and click each file. In Gemini, click a file and use the download button. Then upload them under Knowledge in your new bot. |
| Purpose, tone, rules | These live inside your instructions, so they come along when you paste them in. |
| Conversation starters | Note them down and add them to your new bot. |
| Past conversations | These don't carry over. To bring a project in progress with you, use the optional handoff in Step 1. |
| Actions and connected apps | These don't transfer. Note them down and ask your BoodleBox admin about alternatives. |
Yes. If you use OpenAI's "Migrate to plugin" button, OpenAI makes the GPT read-only once it has been migrated. Finish the export first.
BoodleBox is free to start. No credit card required.
Some workspaces have later dates, so check with your admin. Dates reflect public announcements as of October 2026 and may change.
A bot is a named assistant you set up once with instructions and knowledge files, and a group can share. A skill is a set of instructions an AI pulls in when you ask for it. Google's Skills, for example, are called up with a slash command right inside Gemini. A plugin is what OpenAI is replacing custom GPTs with: a package of instructions, reference material, and connections to outside services that ChatGPT can use. Both skills and plugins fold into the main assistant instead of living as a separate, named bot. On BoodleBox, a bot isn't tied to the model it was built on. The same instructions and knowledge run on GPT, Claude, Gemini, and whatever ships next, and everyone in a GroupChat can see which bot produced what.
They don't transfer, and at OpenAI many will need to be rebuilt as MCP servers. Note them down before you export, and ask your BoodleBox admin about alternatives.
My bot doesn't answer like the original. Check that your instructions pasted in full and that every knowledge file is listed under Knowledge on the Configure tab. Then test again with two or three questions you know the answers to.
My bot forgot something I taught it in a chat. A bot only knows what's in its written setup, not what you told it in past chats. Add those preferences to the Instructions field.
A file won't upload. If the file type isn't accepted, save it as a PDF or a text file and try again. Gemini may add a short code to downloaded file names, so rename them back to the originals first.
